Sivakumar Balu currently serves as a Senior Software Engineer at Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, where he builds voice-enabled experiences for the HeyMercedes voice assistant. In this role, he develops and deploys microservices using Python, Go, TypeScript, React, and Next.js, orchestrated on Azure Kubernetes Service with Docker, Kubernetes, and Azure DevOps pipelines. He has played a key role in designing scalable cloud-native architectures, integrating Large Language Models to improve contextual understanding and localization, and ensuring real-world usability of conversational AI in vehicles. His work spans backend, frontend, and AI integration, and he has delivered robust CI/CD pipelines for frequent and reliable production releases, alongside implementing observability, resilience, secure API design, and performance optimization for services in automotive environments.
Prior to joining Mercedes-Benz R&D, Sivakumar Balu worked as an Embedded Engineer at Nest (Google) via HCL America, where he designed firmware components and ensured tight integration between device software and cloud services.
